September 6, 2018 will go down in India’s history as Supreme Court scrapped out Section 377. This is no less than a historic verdict! Supreme Court set the birds free from the cage by passing this judgment. The whole LGBTQ community is celebrating and painting the town red. There are visible smiles from ears to ears. Gay sex is no more a crime! Gay love is no more an antisocial behavior! With this verdict, India’s name has been included with those few countries which have made the Homo-bond legal. This is their time in the sun!

But these newly free birds still have certain shackles in their feet. This removal of Section 377 will not become a considerable step towards a better India UNTIL…. Until Gay-marriage is also made legalized! Until gay couples get all the civil rights! And not to forget, until our society starts accepting LGBTQ people the way they are!

Until these three stones will remain in the path, the battle will remain half won!

1. Govt is all set to oppose same-sex marriage!

Recently, a government functionary said, “Decriminalization of same-sex acts was fine, but the government would oppose any demand to legalize same-sex marriage.” Pathetic! Isn’t it? Why an individual’s life is bring screwed up like this? Why a person is being judged for his/her sexual preference? Why Govt is least interested about the major and actual issues (like natural calamities, poverty, corruption, safety issues are name to few) and meddling into the life of LGBTQ? Even the SC marked its stamp on the line – “I am what I am. So take me as I am!”! If one has the right to choose one’s life partner, then why to stop that person to take wedding vows? Let’s live, and let others live!

2. Will wiping out of Section 377 bring other civil rights too?

Not just marriage, but property inheritance, sharing of insurance, etc. also comes under the civil rights. So, a gay couple has all the right to raise his voice for this. After all, all should be treated equally regardless of their lifestyle!

3. When will our whole society welcome this verdict?

This is not the third stone, it’s rather a mountain! Our Point Of View is urging you to ask yourself – Will you accept your brother or son if he says he is in love with a guy? Are you the one tagging your friends in those stupid gay memes? Have you ever made fun of an LGBTQ member? Are you really supporting this verdict openly and with all your heart? At any point of time, can you stop questioning yourself ‘Log Kya Kahenge?’? Though Indian Law has changed its decision, but are we Indians going to change our narrow-minded approach?

That’s why OPOV considers that wiping out Section 377 is as an incomplete victory! Hope to see some more positive progress, so as to make the nation as an Incredible India.

Though we are gratified with the progress so far, yet would like to see some more or the whole! Why? Because everyone has the right to live the life on their own terms. This community has struggled a lot and have surely come out a long way. Enduring so much criticism is not a child’s play. Their belly is surely made up of fire! They have the best weapon in their sleeves and that is ‘Determination’. With this weapon, any battle can be won, any enemy can be defeated!

More Power to the Rainbow people!!
